Griffith Observatory is a public Observatory that is owned, operated and managed by Los Angeles for the visitors. The Griffith Observatory is located in Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, California. The visitors can visit the Griffith Observatory to enjoy various activities such as public telescopes, Planetarium, Book Stores, exhibits, cafes, and some of the most iconic views of the Los Angeles basin.
The Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. There is no separate admission charge for the Griffith Observatory and the visitors can also park in the parking lot and roads at the observatory.
The Griffith Observatory is known as one of the greatest cultural attractions of Los Angeles where the visitors can get to enjoy spectacular views from the Downtown L.A. to the Pacific Ocean.
The observatory was first open to the public in the year 1935 on May 14 and on the very first day of opening the observatory welcomed over 13000 visitors.
Apart from exhibits and free telescopes, the Griffith Observatory also offers various special events, programs and public parties to the visitors.
The exhibit areas in the Griffith Observatory are focused on specific aspects of observation. Some of the major exhibit observation aspects include Wilder Hall of the Eye, Ahmanson Hall of the Sky, W.M. Keck Foundation Central Rotunda, Gunther Depths of Space, Cosmic Connections, Edge of Space Mezzanine, and Exterior Exhibit.
The Griffith Observatory was established with a donation by Colonel Griffith J. Griffith who donated land of 3015 acres in the year 1896 to the city of Los Angeles.
Griffith donated the land and some funds in order to build an observatory which will include planetarium and exhibit halls in order to make astronomy easily accessible to the public
